Danielle Magen, LCSW
Primary Therapist
My intensive training in behavioral therapies started with my fellowship in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Training Program at Columbia University’s School of Social Work (CSSW). There, I studied under Dr. Andre Ivanoff, President of Behavioral Tech, and completed the Intensive DBT training facilitated by Behavioral Tech trainers Randy Wolbert and Gwen Abney-Cunningham.
Early on in my career, I worked with survivors of domestic violence at Seamen’s Society for Children and Families in Staten Island NY. This setting gave me a strong foundation in treating a wide range of conditions including trauma, eating disorders, emotion dysregulation, and suicidality. I gained further experience in trauma treatment – a particularly strong interest of mine - at the Victim Services Unit at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. Moving on to the outpatient practice setting at Park Avenue Psychotherapy, I treated adults with anxiety, depression, relationship and intimacy difficulties, and trauma using a range of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and DBT. As a Primary Therapist at Columbus Park, I’ve been able to focus in on my passions: eating disorders, emotion regulation training and trauma.
Over the years, I’ve completed advanced training in a number of specialty modalities including Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E), DBT-ED, Family-Based Treatment, DBT Solution for Emotional Eating, CBT-ARFID, DBT for Adolescents and Specialist Supportive Clinical Management for severe and enduring anorexia nervosa. I’m also proud to have completed Intensive Training the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Prolonged Exposure Protocol for PTSD with Melanie Harned, PhD, ABPP and Lorie Ritschel, PhD.
I believe being an effective therapist means creating a safe, supportive, and validating environment while using gold-standard treatments that are backed by science. I will listen, collaborate, motivate, and help you tap into your inner strengths and capabilities.
